The Board of Directors of the Beaumont Chapter met at the Jefferson County Courthouse after the second chapter business meeting on 28 July 2003.

The board met to discuss the implications of the LeBlanc brothers' Houston Chapter schedule. Robert LeBlanc informed the board that he and his brother Frank had indeed joined a new crew in the Houston Chapter made up of all SWAC officials. The intent of this crew was to work varsity games on Thursday nights in the Houston area since their SWAC schedule could restrict their availability on Friday nights. However, the Houston Chapter pickings resulted in that crew having only 2 Thursday varsity games and 4 Friday games. Robert stated emphatically that their loyalty remained with the Beaumont Chapter and that they intended to work any games in conflict for the same date in the Beaumont Chapter. The Secretary stated that he did know of this effort and indeed wrote a letter to Sam Brown, Secretary of the Houston Chapter, to let him know of the LeBlanc's good standing with TASO. Mr. Kret also stated that he did advise Frank in the Spring that if they obtained a large Thursday schedule in Houston that they may have trouble fulfilling the sub-varsity requirements of the Beaumont Chapter. He informed the board that Frank's position was that they could fulfill their sub-varsity requirements on Tuesdays. Mr. Kret informed him that this was indeed possible by a strict reading of the Policies, but that Thursday support was the intent of the sub-varsity requirement.

This situation led to a lot of discussion about the responsibilities of officials that work college football or in another high school officials chapter to let the secretaries of each chapter know of their availability in a timely manner with respect to the pickings dates of the chapters.

Greg Peveto made a motion for a new policy that stated that if a Beaumont Chapter official has a conflict of interest due to a varsity game conflict in another chapter, that chapter secretary needs to be contacted by the Beaumont Chapter about those officials' status on the Beaumont Chapter pickings. Second was by Wayne Pratt. After discussion within the board and objection to more obligations on the secretary, Greg withdrew the motion.

After more discussion, Greg Peveto made a motion that if an official is picked on another chapter's board, that official shall make timely communication of their unavailability to the Beaumont Chapter Secretary as soon as possible after those assignments are made. Second was by Wayne Pratt. After even more discussion, John Ballard moved that the unavailability communication motion be tabled to the next chapter business meeting. Mike Defee seconded the motion to table. The motion to table passed by a show of hands.

The other order of business at this meeting was for President Downey to hand out a list of duties and responsibilities for the board members to carry out for or at the pickings coming up the next weekend.

The next board of directors meeting date will be set by President Downey.
