The Board of Directors of the Beaumont Chapter met at 1800 hours prior to the Chapter Meeting.

The board meeting was to ensure that the board had loose ends gathered prior to the start of the chapter meetings for the 2002 season.

The first item of discussion was the UIL Scrimmage Fee policy. President Downey stated that this did not sound so optional as related at the TASO State Meeting by the UIL Athletic Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. Mr. Peveto said that the state meeting had him reconsidering his position against the UIL scrimmage fee, and Secretary Kret echoed this sentiment. President Downey declared his intent to for a special committee to determine what purpose the income from the scrimmage fees served. Mr. Peveto and Mr. Pratt volunteered to serve on this committee. Mr. Downey said that he would like to place about 3 members of the chapter body on this committee. Mr. Peveto will submit names to President Downey for consideration.

The second item of business regarded the Scholarship that presently exists. President Downey stated that he thought the scholarship should carry the name of a prominent former chapter member with it as a memorial. Secretary Kret related as to how he had in the files a folder and previous applications for a scholarship effort dating back many years, and that the folder was entitled the Frenchie Dominque Sportsmanship Award. President Downey said that we would consider that the name for the present scholarship award.

The remainder of the board meeting was used to consider constitutional items up for the 1st reading at the following chapter business meeting. The Secretary was excused to go conduct business matters with arriving members and new prospects.
