The Board of Directors of the Beaumont Chapter met at the Jefferson County Courthouse before the chapter meeting on 13 October 2003.

The board met to hear Mr. Landry regarding his absence at a scheduled varsity game on September 26, 2003, at Baytown Christian versus Sabine Pass. Mr. Landry related to the board that he traveled with and attended a charity golf tournament with a vendor that did business at his place of employment. He stated that their group had an afternoon tee time of 12:30, which did not get started until about 2:00 PM due to the late finishing time of the morning tee time groups. He stated that he got off the course at approximately 6:30 PM. He did attempt to call Ed Watson and Phillip Smith, and managed to leave a voice mail on Phillip Smith's cell phone around 7:00 PM. No one knew, including the Secretary, that the game was really scheduled for 7:00 PM instead of 7:30 PM. Mr. Landry fielded questions about the event from the board. He further stated in answer to a question that an unspecified incident at his home prevented him from making the game even if late.

Mr. Landry was dismissed and discussion revolved about the following issues:

1. Did Mr. Landry present a sufficient reason for missing the game?

No. Therefore the constitution provides for a $10 penalty. The missed game penalty was intended for sub-varsity enforcement, but the constitution clearly states varsity or sub-varsity.

2. Is there an ethics violation for demonstrating a lack of responsibility?

Yes.

3. If Yes, what are the sanctions to be imposed for demonstrating this lack of responsibility?

John Ballard moved to issue a letter of reprimand to Mr. Landry to be included in the chapter records and include a 3 year probation and state that if any action against chapter policies occurs that is deemed serious by the Board of Directors, then the following year he will be suspended for 1 year from being a crew chief. Wayne Pratt seconded the motion. The motion carried by a show of hands of the voting members present 4 for to 1 against. The 1 against voted that direction on the conviction that the sanction was not severe enough.

The other item of business at the meeting was a suggested list of crew chief and crew make-up criteria that was worked up by Mr. Downey as a starting point for a possible policy revision. Board members were asked to review the list and make suggestions by e-mail.

The next board of directors meeting will be set by Mr. Downey.
