The Board of Directors of the Beaumont Chapter met at 1800 hours at Bob Wortham's house. Secretary's Report The Minuets from the March 8, 2001 board meeting were read and approved as read. Geoff Kret reviewed the list of members NOT in Good Standing. Also presented for review was a list of crew make-up as known by the secretary as of the meeting date. Secretary Kret pointed out that although the constitution called for crew make-up to be turned in by April 1 of any year, in reality some crews don't finish forming until just before the season starts. Greg Peveto moved that the deadline stated in Policy No. 6A of Article XX of the By-Laws be extended to July 16 for this season only. Second was by John Ballard. The motion carried. Discussion was then held on responses to the letters the Secretary posted regarding those members who had grossly low attendance at the chapter meetings in 2000. Only two phone calls and no written notice had been made back to the Secretary. Unfinished Business President Gary Downey announced that the Scholarship Committee had selected Miss Kelly Marie Pratt as the 2001 scholarship recipient.

President Downey, Secretary Kret, and 2nd VP Peveto briefed the rest of the board on the lunch meeting held with the 20-4A head coaches on April 25. The notes from that meeting are incorporated into these minutes by reference. The officers conducting that meeting thought that it went well and would pay dividends in the future. New Business · President Downey presented the board with a copy of a letter that he authored to Deweyville head coach Stacy Ackley. The letter was a reply as to why the chapter would not change its officials selections process, based on Coach Ackley's complaint. · The board discussed and authored a proposed amendment to the By-Laws, Article XX, Policy No. 5, regarding changing the scrimmage uniform from a white sports shirt to the regular striped shirt. Bob Wortham moved that the board should present this revision to the membership at the first chapter business meeting on July 16. Second was by Mike Defee. The motion carried. · The board discussed the subject of recruiting new officials. A proposed amendment to the By-Laws, Article VIII, Registration and Dues, was authored to waive the local dues for first time members. The board resolved without a motion to present this proposal to the chapter at the first business meeting on July 16. · Job duties for board members at the selections were briefly discussed. Mr. Downey will make assignments similar to those performed in 2000. · Mr. Downey announced that he was going to reschedule his Crew Chief meeting to be a breakout meeting on a regular chapter meeting night, the night that Mike Defee reviews 3-man mechanics as the rules presentation. Mr. Downey also handed out the topic schedule for the rules meetings.

Discussion was held regarding how to handle the tabled amendment from Mr. Bjerke at the last chapter business meeting regarding a paid observer program. Mr. Downey stated that he had contacted Mr. Robert Sullivan, a Southland Conference observer and former member of the Beaumont Chapter about the idea. Mr. Sullivan agreed to be an observed for a $50 per game fee. The board intends to ask crews to sign up and voluntarily fund their observation. · Discussion was held regarding Mr. Kret's Super Pick idea as a way to enhance coaches' means of getting the crews they wanted in critical games, and thus having a better chance of keeping the game in the chapter. After much discussion, the board agreed to take no action on that idea for the 2001 selections.

The next board meeting will be held at 6:00 PM prior to the first Chapter Business Meeting on July 16 at the Jefferson County Courthouse Jury Impaneling Auditorium.
