Rep Greg Sims, Div. 5 Rep James Roberson, District 9 Rep George Bryant Absent: 1st VP John Ballard, M/L Will McDonald The Board of Directors of the Beaumont Chapter met after the regular chapter meeting on 29 Oct 2001. The purpose of this meeting was the report of the special committee on the complaint placed by Coach Dan Hooks of West Orange-Stark regarding actions of Mr. Gene Watkins in a WO-S at PN-G junior varsity football game on 11 Oct 2001. The details of the complaint are outlined in the October 22, 2001 board meeting minutes. The special committee, Bob Wortham, Tommy Trahan, and Chris Wohleb, conducted interviews of the West Orange-Stark coaches involved in the game, the game officials, and Mr. Watkins. It was noted that no officials directly observed the alleged finger-poking or overheard the remarks about which the complaint was filed. The coaches were interviewed independently, and gave varying testimony on exactly what was said and who was poked. After deliberation, the Board of Directors agreed that some disciplinary action was warranted against Mr. Watkins for his remarks to the coaches, but that any physical contact allegation devolved into one party's word against another and was therefore unverifiable. Greg Peveto moved that committee chairman Mr. Wortham and President Downey counsel Mr. Watkins about his remarks to the WOS coaches and the events under review. The Board will send a letter to West Orange-Stark, the UIL, and TASO stating that the Board verbally reprimanded Mr. Watkins for his remarks to the coaches. Geoffrey Kret, Secretary |
